Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

My father & I were on a father-daughter trip to Maine & we ate here on their last night of the season in October. They threw a benefit for a local charity & the profits from that night all went to helping locals with their heating bills. I had the lobster (what else?) and my father had the shrimp scampi. Delicious. This place hits the spot if you are looking for down-home local cuisine, I would have gone back the next night!

I eat at many restaurants, both on business trips and with my family, and often use Yelp and TripAdvisor as a resource, but this is the first time I have felt compelled to write a review. This restaurant was, quite simply, excellent. Large and very well made portions and extremely friendly service in a family owned restaurant (husband is the chef, wife the cashier / hostess) with very friendly waitresses. This is the only restaurant we went to twice during our stay at Mt Desert Island. The Ciappino was superb - a large selection of seafood (large chunks of lobster, crab and haddock with shrimp, scallops, clams and more) in a delicious slightly spicy sauce. My wife had it the first time (I had the Lazy Lobster, also well made) and she gave me a taste. It was so good that I made sure to have it the 2d time we went. Oh, and if you like blueberry pie you have to try it here (home baked each day by the chef/co-owner). Warmed up with vanilla ice cream a la mode - the best pie on the island according to my kids, who made it their personal missions to try blue berry pie every chance they got.

Bacon wrap scallops for starter absolutely outstanding. New England Claim Chowder & Shrimp Scampi perfect. All seafood caught in the morning served for dinner so fresh and so delicious chef did an outstanding job. Service was over the top and the atmosphere rustic down east Maine. Just Perfect

Came in on a Monday night when everything else in town seemed to be closed. The place was packed, but the service was quick and the (delicious) food arrived swiftly. The 'dinner for one' was very satisfying and reasonably priced.

I have only written two bad reviews in my entire life, but this has got to be the worst experience ever. I ordered chicken Italiano on pasta. The pasta came dry as straw. I asked the waiter for more sauce. The owner came over 5-10 minutes later to tell me they made the sauce to order. When I said I still wanted more sauce She walked away indignant. Another 15-20 minutes passed when another waitress returned with a small side dish of sauce. By now my meal is very cold. I told the waitress it was cold and if they were simply going to microwave it I was not interested. She took my plate back and few minutes later came back for the side dish of sauce and my meal was returned 30 seconds later. I could have tossed the sauce with the meal but the chicken was still cold. What really shocked me was the owner coming over and telling my wife I might like the meal when I calmed down. The bill was $103.00 plus tip and they charged us for the meal I never eat. Instead they offered us blueberry desert to go. If you want a real itallian restaurant that takes there customers seriously this is not the place. I am sure the manager will post some response that will be less than honest. Please email me and I will make sure you know the whole story. Obviously if it was this bad you should think twice!Even the waiter came over later and explained it was a new cook. Why couldn't the owner shown the same honesty. When the owner is more concerned with the bill then the quality of the food or experience that is a problem.

We finished our Maine trip with a dinner here. It was a wonderful place with friendly staff and a menu that was equal parts Italian and local seafood. Since there's only so much boiled lobster with drawn butter you can eat, I appreciated the different variations of lobster. I had the pasta with red clam sauce, which was well executed. They also had a prix-fixe menu with a lot of variation to keep it interesting.

This restaurant was the #1 place to eat on tripadvisor.com and after eating there, I have no idea why. I literally have had better seafood at Red Lobster. Everything my husband and I got was soggy and overcooked. My fried shrimp could have been from a frozen box of gorton's fisherman. We didn't send anything back or complain while we were there because honestly, I feel so terrible being THAT person. The staff and owner seemed very nice but the food was just awful and expensive for what you got. Maybe we just hit it on an off night but I will never be returning to find out.

I would rate this place 5 stars below !!! Y wife and I tried to eat there, and I do mean tried. The dishes we ordered were absoluty NASTY !!! We order the " world famous seafood dish ". After removing 1 cup of grease from the top, I tried a taste. No way was I going to eat this. My wife had my Veal dish, I switched meals with her, no way was she going to try the seafood dish. The veal was like eating a leather belt . When the waitress asked about our meals, I told her the truth. The owner/chef came storming over to our table demanding to know what was wrong, his mistake. He embarrassed himself and also made us like bad. Gross food.

No, not ever again. We should have known that while every other restaurant on the island was swamped, this place had plenty of parking spots open. Once inside, you quickly saw why... A very rustic and rarely updated place...tired, just plain tired. Waited awhile for someone to greet us and then sat is an area outside. Menu is large with a good amount of italian dishes. The party I was with ordered both italian and seafood and no one had a good thing to say. The fish dishes were all covered with unique sauces that tasted like they were used to cover the age and quality of the fish they were serving. The stuffed shrimp was literally cocktail (MINI) shrimp thrown in a baking dish and mixed with stuffing. First and last time, anyone would order that. If we thought our experience was a fluke, it was not. Patrons around us stared in amazement as we all waited an eternity for food to be served. It is a good thing the place was empty or it might have been a few hours to get food.... Unless you have no other options, keep driving by......not worth it.

Wow.Two full blooded Italians are in Maine, right? So we're hungry. Tired of Lobster, french fries, crabrolls and chowdah! We went with friends who've never really gone to this place in the 14+ years they'd been going to Maine. So we all decide, what the heck let's give it a try! So we did. Now, ANY good Italian KNOWS you NEVER order anything with red sauce on it when dining out, JUST IN CASE the chef is a MED-EE-Cahn and NOT A PAISON! Capische? Turns out the chef was a MED-EE-cahn. But Maah-dawn could he cook! Turns out he's got his wife's beloved Nonna's recipes. You'd think Nonna herself was doin' da cookin'. So, being that I AM A GOOD ITALIAN, I order da Chicken Italiano. I wasn't expecting much from a hillside house in MAINE for God's sake! So, we go in with da fairly low expectations, ya know?. We shoulda aimed a LOT higher because this place is Bada Bing, Bada Boom! Taste Buds goin' outta control, ya know? Veal Marsalas across da table were getting hit wit da fork faster than Capone could whip out a tommy gun. My chicken was so tender I coulda cut it with a plastic spoon! The merlots were amply served in large glasses. Da GRILLED chicken parmigiana was delicious (so I was told by my Med EE Cahn friend (who has developed quite a palate for Italian cuisine!). I decided to try their Blueberry Mojito and was suprised pleasantly. (I come from the Blueberrry Capital of the world, so those little beans they call berries had better be good and sweet. they were. Deliciouso! The owner Kathy, came out and asked if we'd like desert, I spied a light lemon cake with a blueberry (dere they go again wit dese blueberries).. but we had to say "BASTA!" (Enough, for my Med-EE-Cahn paisans). We left full and happy. Oh? Did I leave out the prices? Very reasonable, especially for your portions. Give it a shot when your in dis necka da woods. Don't male me tell ya twice. Oh yeah and it's TOP of the Hill, not the TROP of the Hill. Sorry, I got a little carried away

Also, there is a sharing charge. Please look out for this. Sharing charges are not supposed to be charged to Children's meals. We read other reviews on Tripadvisor that stated the server did this in error.

See my tips for details...nice setting, but not so much to my taste.

My husband and 3 kids have eaten here three times, once in August 2012 and twice in August 2013. The service is friendly. To start, they serve great Italian bread - with margarine. At these prices, I certainly expect real butter. On my most recent visit, I ordered lobster stew. It was so salty that I could not eat it. To their credit, when I complained, they replaced the stew with lobster Newburgh, which was quite tasty, and had a lot of lobster, although it was also quite salty. By our 3rd visit, the lobster Newburgh was the only dish that anyone in my family was willing to order. The desserts were good though. Quite honestly, we only returned here because we haven't had great food at many of the Southwest Harbor restaurants.

I had the shrimp and scallops Alfredo and it was great. Tasty sauce, tender and flavorful scallops, good sized shrimp, large portions. Only negative was it was served over rainbow rotini, and it was a strange pasta style choice since thy we've their red sauce over linguini (not that it really matters to me, as I think all pasta tastes the same). One dining companion ordered the prime rib (only available tues and thurs) and thoroughly enjoyed his steak. It was a good sized piece of meat, and tender. The other dining companion ordered the fish and chips meal, which was also very good portion size. The French fries were just ok, but they said they really enjoyed the fish and cole slaw. For dessert, we got the blueberry hill, which is layers of homemade lemon cake drizzled with blueberry sauce. Very good! Reminded me of summer as the dessert was very refreshing. Also ordered was a slice of blueberry pie, warmed and with whipped cream (no one was in the mood for a la mode). The pie was served nicely warm and tasted delicious. The restaurant is only open for dinner, but take out is available. This is a great spot for dinner.

We only come here on vacation. Every time we are not disappointed. Once again the food was spectacular and the waitstaff was exceptional and friendly. We will continue to come back as long as it remains under the current owners.

They are getting 2 stars because the food was decent. The service however was horrible. The waitress barely came over to our table in the hour we waited for our food. When she finally saw our 4 year old daughter was getting alittle impatient, she told us they had two big parties, that is why it was taking so long. I might have believed that if the place was full. But the place had a handful of of people at other tables. I can't imagine the wait if its full. After we asked for the bill, a different waitress brought us our receipt.

Mediocre food and service is being generous. The sides were all bad too. My food (daily special) was pretty lousy but others at our table fared slightly better so 3 stars overall.
(3)Fred M.
Three stars is ordinary, this place is not ordinary. The spaghetti with giant meatballs was cooked perfect and had a very decent marinara. Service is great and the decour, a novelty of lights and decorations. Dessert pies are made in-house! Best restaurant in Southwest Harbor, Maine.

We were hungry today after a long day of hiking and decided on this restaurant. We ordered the chicken parmesan and stuffed shrimp. First off the food was only "ok". Not worth the $15 a meal. The waitress took our order and off she went until 15 mins later....once we ordered our meal I had to hunt her down for a refill. Once the meal came to our table she dumped the food off at our table and just left!!! Didn't say a word. We didn't see her again until I had to get up and ask for our bill. I was persuaded to give at least a $5.00 tip but if it were up to me it would have been a lot less. Bottom line. Terrible service, ok food. Will not return...ever.

While visiting here in Southwest Harbor we wanted to visit a seafood place We are staying in an RV park just up the road from Demuros' Top of the Hill Restaurant, so we thought we'd go there rather than drive to one of the little harbor towns to get seafood. We're glad we came here. The food was DELICIOUS!! My husband had the boiled lobster and I had the lobster alfredo. My husband really enjoyed the lobster and said it was the best he'd ever had. My lobster alfredo was with linguini and a very nice sauce that wasn't overdone or had too much sauce as I've experienced in some places where the food is swimming in sauce. The bread was also really great!! Fresh, hot and delicious!! The prices were also better than some of the other places on Mt. Desert Island, so that was a plus. I saw several poor reviews of this restaurant and don't understand why, we had a great experience! We travel full-time, to see our blog visit retired-openroad.us .

Random, but this place served the best piece of cheesecake I've ever had. No kidding. And I know cheesecake! :) I believe the woman there that made it was Debbie. Had the cioppino (spelling?) and it was very good. But that cheesecake, omg.

Seriously overpriced. Nothing special. Bar harbor has much better options for your taste buds. The service was good but the prices were quite ridiculous when you compare them to the quality of the food and the location. The clam chowder was ok but watered down. Rotini Alfredo was like a watered down Mac n, cheese. Very funny signs inside, not so funny overall experience. They charge extra for shared entrees. Yelp lists 3 locations / entry's for this establishment.

I'm with you, Dina. Tired of Chowdah, my husband and I went to DeMuro's Top of the Hill for some Eye-talian. I ordered Lobster Alfredo. It was very good, but not garlicky enough for me. Other folks would have loved it and I do understand that the chefs must cater to the lesser spiced palate. The lobster in it was a mixed bag of mostly tender and some tough, but it might have been whence the lobster part came. Not a big expert on lobster you see, coming from the midwest. My husband loved his dinner. He did have a red sauce something or other. I liked this old school place, plenty of parking, good bread, good wine, quiet but not hushed. The bathroom is upstairs which will either make it difficult or impossible for the mobility challenged. I would definitely go back.
